Groups, splitting, and settlements

What is the difference between a Split group and a Family group?Split group — expenses create balances between members and can be settled. Family group — spending is pooled/tracked without creating person-to-person debt, so “who owes whom” does not apply.Read answerWhich split methods are supported?Group expenses support equal, percentage, shares, and custom/exact-amount splits. The selected member allocations must add up correctly before the expense can be saved.Read answerWhy can I not add or edit an expense in a group? The group owner/admin can control whether members may add or edit expenses. Before a future-dated group starts, only owners/admins can add expenses. Archived groups are always read-only, and settled expenses/groups have additional locks.Read answerHow do I stop group members from editing expenses?Group owners and admins can switch off expense editing for ordinary members from Edit Group.Read answerWho can delete a group expense? The expense creator can swipe to delete only when member permissions allow edits and the expense/group is not settlement-locked. Being an owner/admin does not by itself make someone else the creator for swipe-to-delete.Read answerWhy can I not leave a group? An ordinary member must settle their own balance before leaving. Owners/admins cannot use the normal Leave Group action; ownership/administrative cleanup is required instead.Read answerWhy can I not archive a group?Only an owner/admin can archive. For groups where members can owe each other, all outstanding balances must be settled first. The archived group remains available as a read-only record.Read answerWhy does an expense still show an old split status after a partial settlement?Partial settlements are tracked at the group balance level and do not always rewrite every expense's individual split row. Use the group's Members or settlement view for the current net amount owed; the expense detail can show a notice when group-level settlements exist.Read answerHow do invites work?Use the invite action in a group, or Profile → Settings → Invite Friends to HisabAI, to open the phone's share sheet. The recipient follows the invite link and signs into the intended account before accepting.Read answer
