HisabAI AI features: voice input, receipt OCR, and smart prompts
HisabAI's AI features handle the slow parts of expense tracking — voice input to log expenses as you talk, receipt OCR for Indian bill formats, smart categorisation that learns your patterns, leak-detection prompts when spending changes, and monthly summaries that explain what shifted. AI assists; you stay in control of every final entry.

What HisabAI's AI does, and what it doesn't
Five things to know up front:
- • AI speeds up entry — voice and receipt scan compress a 30-second entry into 3 seconds
- • AI surfaces patterns — category trends, leak detection, recurring spend recognition
- • AI generates summaries — monthly highlights, "what changed" explanations
- • AI never accesses your bank, UPI account, or any external financial system
- • AI outputs are assistive and may need review before being relied on for decisions
Voice input
Speak the expense and HisabAI parses it. The natural-language input — "₹450 dinner with Rohit yesterday at Indian Coffee House" — gets broken down into amount, date, payer, participants, vendor, and category. You confirm before save.
Voice input is calibrated for how Indians actually talk about expenses — mixed English and Hindi, vague time references ("yesterday", "last weekend"), partial info ("split with Rohit and Priya"), and informal vendor names.
Examples voice input handles well:
- • "₹350 for groceries today"
- • "500 का chai with team kal"
- • "₹1,200 dinner, equal split between 4 of us"
- • "Cab to airport ₹620, my share"
- • "Wi-Fi 999, my share for this month"
Receipt scanning (OCR for Indian bill formats)
Scan or upload a receipt and HisabAI extracts the data — total amount, date, vendor, and line items where the format allows. OCR is tuned for the formats Indians actually encounter:
- • Restaurant bills — printed or thermal-print
- • Kirana store receipts and handwritten chits
- • Online delivery PDFs — Zepto, Blinkit, BigBasket, Swiggy Instamart, Amazon Fresh, Flipkart Grocery
- • Petrol pump and gas station receipts
- • Utility bills — electricity, Wi-Fi, mobile, gas
- • Medical bills and pharmacy receipts
- • Form 16 PDFs for the Tax Vault salary section
- • Insurance premium notices and policy receipts
Accuracy varies by image quality — a clear phone photo of a printed bill works best. Handwritten chits often work for total amount even when line items can't be extracted. You can edit any auto-filled field before save.
Smart categorisation
Every expense gets an auto-suggested category — food, transport, shopping, utilities, household, medical, subscriptions, and more. The suggestions get better over time as HisabAI learns from your corrections. In group expenses, HisabAI also suggests likely participants based on past splits.
What gets auto-categorised:
- • Merchant patterns — Swiggy / Zomato → Food, Uber / Ola → Transport
- • Amount + time patterns — a ₹40 expense at 8am is probably your morning chai
- • Recurring matches — auto-tags Wi-Fi, electricity, maid salary based on prior month
- • Voice context — "dinner with team" auto-categorises as Food and adds team members
Smart prompts and leak detection
HisabAI surfaces small, specific prompts when something changes — not generic alerts. Examples from real use:
- • "Wi-Fi auto-debited 12 months — is this still being used?"
- • "Donation receipt missing — we spotted a ₹5,000 donation last week" (links to Tax Vault)
- • "B hasn't settled their share of the Goa trip in 21 days"
- • "Your transport spend has gone up 40% over 3 months"
- • "You spent ₹4,200 more on dining this month than last — mostly weekends"
- • "You're paying for 4 streaming services right now — are all of them in use?"
Monthly AI summaries
Once a month, HisabAI produces a short summary of what actually happened with your money — by category, by group, and by trend. The goal is not a pie chart; it's a few sentences that explain what shifted and why.
What a typical monthly summary looks like:
- "Your spend was 12% above your usual. Big driver: groceries (+₹6,000) and dining out (+₹4,200, mostly weekends). Subscriptions are flat. Transport down because you walked more."
- "Family spend was steady. School fees + medical were the biggest categories. Mother's spend was up ₹3,200 due to a one-off Diwali shopping run."
- "Goa trip: ₹84,000 across 5 people. Biggest spender: A (₹26,000, mostly hotel). Most settled within 4 days; B took 18 days."
Where AI doesn't help (and shouldn't)
Worth being explicit about what HisabAI's AI doesn't do:
- • Never accesses your bank account, UPI account, or any external financial system
- • Never initiates or completes payments — UPI transfers happen in your UPI app
- • Doesn't give regulated investment, tax, or financial advice
- • Doesn't replace a CA — Tax Vault organises records for filing, the CA still does the filing
- • AI outputs are assistive — review before using for important decisions
Privacy of AI processing
AI features process your data so HisabAI can give you category suggestions, summaries, and prompts. Your data is not used to train external AI models. Some features (cross-device sync, AI summaries) require server-side processing, so HisabAI is not end-to-end encrypted in the strict technical sense. See the Security page for the full data-handling picture.
AI features by plan
AI features are tiered. Higher monthly limits scale with the plan:
- • Free — basic AI categorisation and voice input, low limits
- • Plus (₹499 / yr) — 60 AI insights / month, 20 receipt scans / month, full voice input, 10 insight cards / month
- • Pro (₹4,599 / yr) — 400 AI insights / month, 150 receipt scans / month, 50 exports / month, unlimited insight cards
Frequently asked questions
What languages does voice input support?
Voice input handles English, Hindi, and the Hinglish mix Indians actually use. Mixed sentences like "₹500 का chai with team kal" get parsed correctly, with amount, vendor (chai shop), participants (team), and date (yesterday) extracted.
Can the receipt scanner read Indian bill formats?
Yes. OCR is tuned for restaurant bills (printed and thermal), kirana chits, online delivery PDFs (Zepto, Blinkit, BigBasket, Swiggy Instamart, Amazon Fresh, Flipkart Grocery), petrol pump receipts, utility bills, medical bills, and Form 16 PDFs. Accuracy depends on image quality.
Does HisabAI's AI access my bank?
No. AI features work only on the data you record in HisabAI. There is no bank integration, no UPI account access, and no automatic transaction import from external accounts.
How accurate is the AI?
Voice and OCR are calibrated for common Indian formats and work well on clear inputs. Accuracy drops on poor photos, unusual handwriting, or non-standard formats. You can always edit auto-filled fields before saving.
What happens if AI gets a category or amount wrong?
You correct it. HisabAI learns from corrections, so the same pattern is more likely to be right next time. Corrections also do not affect your historical data — only future suggestions.
Are AI features included on the Free plan?
Basic AI is on Free — category suggestions and voice input with low monthly limits. Higher limits, more insight cards, and more receipt scans require Plus or Pro.
Does my data train AI models?
Your HisabAI data is not used to train external AI models. AI features compute over your data to give you suggestions and summaries, but your records do not flow into broader model training.
Can I turn AI off?
Voice input and receipt scanning are opt-in — you use them only when you want to. Smart prompts and AI summaries can also be muted from settings if you prefer a quieter experience.
Let AI do the boring parts
Voice and receipt scan handle the slow work of entry. Smart prompts and summaries handle the slow work of understanding. You stay in control of everything in between.
